Great Start to the New Year!

What a wonderful group of grade 7s to begin a year-long adventure with! L.A.D added two awesome students in Maryam and Allan. Welcome to L.A.D.!

Last week we got started with our student blogs. We learned how to create a personal blog as well as how to add pictures and videos to the posts. Stay tuned for some very well developed blog sites! Also in Language, we read an interesting article on the plight of bats being affected by a mysterious illness.

In Math, Data Management is our first unit. Topics included the difference between primary and secondary data collections. Students completed a small data collection activity and are currently working with a partner or partners on creating their own primary data survey. In the coming week, we will be learning how to use Google Tools to create graphs.

Science started with a complex group of vocabulary words included in the "Classification of Matter" chapter. Students will be using Quizlet to study these vocabulary terms throughout the unit. We are currently learning about the Particle Theory of Matter.

It was great to get into the gym three times last week for the low organized game, Wall Ball. This game is a great combination of cardio activity and strategy.
This week we koved to indoor and outdoor soccer (see pictures)
In art, we started learning about the Elements of Art.  The fist student assignment is a blind contour self-portrait. Students had to draw themselves without looking at the paper. This makes for some interesting glamour shots. Next is the addition of colour.

Our Google Classroom is up and running and student can use this as a home base for learning materials and assignments.
